Prof. Gao obtained his PhD in language engineering in 1997 from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and joined the faculty of National Taiwan University in 1999. His recent publication includes Routledge Handbook of Chinese Translation published in 2017, of which he is the co-editor. Prof. Gao is involved in several major corpus projects in Taiwan, including the LTTC English Learner Corpus Project sponsored by Language Training & Testing Center and the Chinese corpus project at National Academy for Educational Research, of which he serves as one of the principal investigators. He was a board member of National Languages Committee in Taiwan as well as its head of the division of Information Processing from 2008 to 2012. From 2008 to 2017, he was also a board member of the R.O.C. Computational Linguistics Society.
